The trail follows the Bow River to the falls. It starts on the bridge across the Bow River right at the end of Banff Avenue. It is very easy to find - to get to the trail, you need to cross the bridge first. Don't forget to look around while you are doing that:

Cross the bridge and turn left, you should see Banff YMCA right in front of you and Mount Rundle in the distance:
The marked trail access will be just ahead:
There will also be a map of the area with all the trails in town:
From here, just follow the trail downstream, it will take about 15-25 minutes to get there, depending on how many times you stop to take pics:

Soon the river will enter the gorge and the trail will get steeper, so be ready for some stairs:

Good view on the Falls:
Arriving to the main parking lot. You could get here by car, of course, but that's so much less fun:

View on the Falls:
There are rafting tours starting here, Tunnel Mountain in the background:
From here, you have multiple choices. You could either walk or take a taxi back downtown, or cross the Spray river and proceed to the golf course, or take the trail uphill (stats just before the bridge across Spray river, to the right of the bridge) and that will get you to the Waldhaus restaurant:
and eventually to the magnificent castle towers of Banff Springs Hotel:
but that's for another story.
Enjoy the walk!
