Ptarmigan Cirque Trail

E-mail

Ptarmigan Cirque Trail starts from the highest point of the Highwood Pass of the Kananaskis Highway. There is a parking lot just off the summit where you can park your car and choose one of the 2 maintained trails available: Ptarmigan Cirque or Highwood Meadows. Ptarmigan Cirque trail is about 2 hours roundtrip and includes a bit of the elevation gain, so be prepared for some exercise. It starts in the forest but climbs quickly to the Alpine area.

Wildlife, apparently, like to gather at this spot and lick the salt left on pavement from earlier in the season. They will look for food from humans, too, but keep in mind - it is illegal to feed them.

Overall, very nice short trail with amazing views and impressive rocks at the top. Highly recommended.
